This painting is based on a Mexican mask that I purchased in the small Guitar-making town of Paracho, Morelia in 1973. It represents one of the figures in los Cristianos y los Morros dance, or the Christians and Moors, in celebration of the Spanish driving the Moors from the Iberian Peninsula.
